Alpaca Wool is one of the most ethical products available and is completely eco-friendly throughout its production. No chemicals or dyes are used in the manufacture of our bedding, and the animals themselves are given the best care and nutrition, so as to provide them with long-term health and to help them to maintain a glossy, healthy fleece. Alpacas are not killed for their fur or meat and the animals are not at all harmed come shearing time. Great care is taken so as not to distress the animal or damage the alpaca wool.

Benefits

The alpaca industry is still in its early stages in the UK, with only an estimated 20,000 animals and 1000 owners in the country. The alpaca is considered the must-have livestock of today and with demand exceeding supply, it is set to soon be an international industry. With an increased pressure on traditional farming, alpaca herds are a feasible alternative. Our alpaca wool products are an ideal choice for those who support this sustainability in the British rural economy.

Our alpaca wool bedding is handmade in Nottinghamshire and made entirely from materials sourced in the UK. We help to support this new formation of rural fibre industries. This strategy also eliminates any air miles generated in the export of alpaca fibre from ranches abroad, making our alpaca wool products an all round eco-friendly venture.

With little impact on the environment, in both production and the keep of the animals, the lasting costs of producing alpaca products are low, and it is a good transition from a working farm into a more relaxed environment. The economic value of the alpaca is more evident in the end product. Alpaca duvets eliminate the need for seasonal bedding, and dramatically decrease the need for sleep aids, reducing the all round cost of a comfortable nights sleep.

During the night your body’s temperature fluctuates from hot to cold. This is often unsettling and can cause an uncomfortable night with disturbed sleep. Alpaca wool is made up of hollow fibres that allow water molecules to move freely. It is this that keeps your body cool and dry during the night and helps your body to control temperature whilst you sleep. The unique stitching on our alpaca wool duvets and the natural fibres work with your body to keep your temperature constant.

Equally, this natural temperature control system is also ideal for sufferers of night sweats, over heating or those who get too cold in bed. The hollow fibres of the alpaca wool keep any moisture away from the skin, and have an amazing ability to resist dirt and grime. Compared to regular bedding, our alpaca duvets and pillows are excellent at staying clean. Couples with differing warmth requirements can also take full advantage of the bedding, the fibres will keep you both at your ideal temperature.

Unlike normal duvets, the cool, dry environment of an alpaca wool duvet makes it difficult for dust mites to live and breed. Dust mite droppings trigger a high proportion of allergies like Asthma. Alpaca wool is naturally anti-allergenic and is the perfect choice for those who suffer such allergies. The animals are raised in a chemical free environment, ensuring our bedding is suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

All our wool pillow and wool duvet cotton covers are processed to high organic standards. The materials are produced without harmful chemicals, promoting a healthier environment and encouraging biodiversity. The cotton we use is natural and both renewable and biodegradable. Through our environmentally responsible methods of production, our customers can be assured that our wool bedding products are produced to a globally recognised standard. It is our cotton outer that is used to define organic status, and all fabric used in our wool bedding is purchased with an organic certification certificate.

The cotton fabric used in the production of our alpaca wool mattress topper outers are organically certified. Organics are gradually taking the lead in the textile industry. Consumers are better informed about the impacts of textile production and are becoming increasingly demanding of higher standards. Our organic wool bedding range is a way of addressing this consumer demand and ensures a higher customer confidence in our bedding products.

The fibre used in our alpaca and sheeps wool bedding is a natural, renewable material that we source from sustainable farms in Britain and is uniquely hand sewn in our workshop and finished to a high standard. The nature of the sheep and alpaca wool fibre means that only natural waste is generated in the production process. We reuse these left overs in other smaller products and aim to let nothing go to waste. Sheep and alpaca wool fibre is naturally biodegradable and will blend back into the earth within a short space of time. The same cannot be said for synthetic fibres found in other duvets.

Our packaging is also an extension of our sustainable values. We use recycled board in all of our product straps and only print with vegetable ink. As we are strong believers in reusing, recycling and reducing, we produce our packaging as a multipurpose piece of design, and can be reused as a calendar once you have unwrapped your wool bedding. The packaging for our duvets and toppers can be used as a handy laundry bin or a container for dried pet food.

Sustainability is something we highly value throughout our production process and something we even extend to our methods of delivery. By using a delivery service that balances their emissions through carbon offsetting, we ensure our products are completely carbon neutral.
